Hello my friends! Today it is give away time here in Sykoland! I was so happy when Amy asked me to participate in the blog tour for her new book Countryside softies and immediately decided that I would take the time to make a project from the book, but first let me say a few words about this book! Amy's instructions are clear and easy to follow and the designs are so clever and cute! I love the layout of the book, it is fresh and clean, browsing through the pages made me feel like I was taking a walk in the fresh air somewhere in the woods in England discovering all these fantastic animals! I love that there is 'room to breath' on the pages of a book! The teeny softies are made from upcycled wool. If I had had any wool in my studio I would have made these hedgehogs for my kids. The look in those button eyes makes me melt :) The swan was an attractive alternative too...
...but when I saw the dragonfly I new that it had to be it. I love those small, shiny helicopters! They work hard to fight the mosquitoes at our Summer house! As I was looking for pictures for this post I discovered that you can download the dragonfly pattern at the stashbooks blog for free (but of course I suggest you buy the whole package :)
I used cotton jersey knit for the body and steady linen for the wings for my dragonflies. This is the he and here's the she:
I hope I didn't scare you there! For a chance to win the book, please leave a comment on this post and tell me which your favourite wild animal from your environment is- big or bug! The draw is open untilTuesday night the 26th Helsinki time.
Follow Amy on her tour for more chances to win Countryside softies:

Now I'm off to eat some more chocolate eggs! Happy Easter!
No, its never too late Deanna! I was 30 when I changed careers, it took some great courage and determination, but I am so glad today that I was brave enough :)

I've been looking for this book! My daughters both red the Fabulous Mr Fox last year and then we saw the movie ... which is the first thing I thought of when I saw the cover of this book.
And I think your dragonflies are absolutely adorable - it never ceases to amaze me how much personality comes out of homemade creatures. :)

I would love to make a frog for my girls. They love frogs!

I am so thankful I stumbled upon your blog!! Every time I "hop on" -- I am inspired by the fresh, new look of your style!! It's contagious!! And being a teacher of 32 years, I LOVE the projects for children!! Thank you for your inspiration and fun, uplifting blog!! I started making "softies" as a teenager and continued in my twenties .... is it too late to start up again in my 50's????

I love watching the birds in our back yard. We can count on seeing them all year long. Thanks for the chance to win this book!

We have wonderful foxes where I live. Although I think Amy's fox is probably cuter than the wild ones.

We have a 'friendly' blue tongue lizard that lives in our shed and scares the pants of my husband on a regular basis. He moves through the leaves and his tail looks like a snake apparently.

I live in the city where there are no "wild" animals - just pigeons, but my favourite has to be bunnies, I love them.
thanks for the giveaway.

I love all the little critters in this book. Off now to download the dragonfly pattern as the book is not available in the uk yet.....I'll just have to wait a little longer.
Posted by: Indianna | 26 April 2011 at 02:53 PM
What a fabulous dragonfly. I've downloaded the pattern so hopefully I'll find some time to make one of my own. I have a pair of Blackbirds that visit my garden and I love to watch them dance across my lawn!
Posted by: Angela | 26 April 2011 at 02:39 PM
ooh I'd love to win this book. My fave wild animal has to be the squirrel who eats all the nuts I put out for the birds. In fact, these days I think I feed the squirrel more than I feed the birds!

*swoon* is there anything else to say?
Posted by: Brie Henri | 26 April 2011 at 01:53 PM
Hi Kajsa,
I have almost been camping out by my letterbox waiting for your gorgeous book to arrive here in Melbourne, Australia. My favourite little critter would have to be the gecko lizard. We caught one in our garden over Easter and my son was over the moon. (We let him go).
Posted by: Sharon Smith | 26 April 2011 at 12:44 PM
One of my favorite wild animals that live around me would have to be the echidna.

Hi, Kajsa! I've made 4 of your cute Tomte dolls so far, and have 7 more faces embroidered - I'm going to be ready for Christmas 2011 LONG before the snow flies, I hope :D
My favourite local wild animal would be a chubby raccoon - I know they're considered "pests" but I love their inquisitive little bandit faces :)
Posted by: Sandra :) | 25 April 2011 at 05:17 AM
The beautiful but very noisy rainbow lorikeets are our most frequent visitors, but my favourite are the bright blue butterflies.
Posted by: pinsandkneedles | 25 April 2011 at 02:24 AM
My favorite wild animals are definitely the red squirrels from Western Canada where I grew up. Sadly, there aren't any in my adopted country of New Zealand so I often dream of smuggling in a few to brighten everyone's lives. Well not really because I know that would be bad, but a girl can dream right?
Posted by: Jacqui | 24 April 2011 at 10:33 PM
Oh, there are so many to chose from! But I'll probably have to go with foxes. I get so excited everytime I see one!

Thanks for a chance to win this cute book. We see deer and rabbits in our city neighborhood, which is near a large wooded park.
Posted by: MoeWest | 24 April 2011 at 08:32 PM
Well the animals we watch the most are squirrels but my favourite is probably the badger though you are very lucky to see one as they are shy and nocturnal.

We have deer that come into our yard to eat apples from my apple tree each year and it's such fun watching them. It's strange to see them in my yard however as we live within the city limits and not out in the country somewhere. I guess my favorite critter would be either the deer or raccoons. I just adore raccoons and how cute they are.

I think my favorite wild animal is the raccoon. We used to have a family that lived on the building in our backyard but luckily for our cats they've moved on. Still, they were very cute. From a distance! Thanks for the chance to win!

I love dragon flies, grasshoppers, ladybugs, almost all living creatures!

My family watches a nest of baby Barred Owls in a hollow tree in the common ground behind our house. Every year the parents return to this nest and we always look forward to watching them from our second story windows, high enough to see the babies heads bobbing up. They are so adorable!
Love the dragonflies, Kajsa!
