On Saturday I had a workshop for a group of school kids. They designed and made their own softies, mascots and monsters. "This looks so much better than I thought it would", said one of the girls when she was finished with her owl :)
We started by making sketches on large papers,by that I tried to avoid the tiniest pieces!
Most kids did some kind of raw-edge appliqué on their stuffies with my assistance. With black thread, of course! Then there was some machine and hand stitching...
...and a some running around...
How amazing are those monsters! Kids are so creative, they just need some good materials, some pointers in the right direction and a great teacher.

Hi Laura Lea! The kids in that group were ages 8-11. Yesterday I thought a group of 10 children aged 8-14, we were 2 adults and I think it worked very well. I will blog about it later!

Oh what wonderful softies be they mascot or monster! You've really done a fantastic job with these kids. They're wonderful. All of this done in one day? WOW! May I ask the age of the students and how many you had in this group? I've always wanted to try a flat version with young students where we fuse the pieces down. In other words material is has fusible attached they draw and cut out, position, then an adult helps them with a hot iron to glue them pieces down. Maybe even some buttons could be hand sewn onto these fused pieces too.
