Have you seen that fabric manufacturer Robert Kaufman and Spoonflower are arranging a fabric design contest together? It's called fabric8. The theme is the style of pen & ink drawings colored with watercolor paints. Some of my appliqué print designs might have the look they are striving for, but the last two days I have spent some time doodling and am trying to teach myself how to design fabrics the traditional way. I found this great tutorial by Julia Rothman on Design*Sponge on how to make a repetitive hand-drawn pattern.
So I've been doodling around, problem is, you can only submit one design, so it can't be any pretty fabric, it must be the design, that will appeal to many people. Well, I'm just going to do as well as I can and try to come up with a fabric print that I would be happy to use myself. If it is really good it has to hurt a bit when you cut into it :) That's what I'm striving for. Sounds easier than it is.
What are you up to today?
"hi everyone
check out the fabrics at www.fabric-distributor.com,
they have the cutest, cheapest and best quality fabrics
come check them out!"

Kajsa,
I'm sure you will come up with a great design, agree if fabric design is good you don't want to cut into it. Good Luck!

Thank you for the information about the contest. I have been designing fabrics lately too so it's tempting to participate. It was great to see you on Finnish tv, I could so relate being a small business owner and blogger myself. Happy creating and have a nice weekend!

I knew about the competition and was tempted to enter myself, but realistically just don't have the uninterrupted, child free time to give it proper thought and creativity. Never-the-less, I will keep my eyes peeled for your entry and vote! Good luck with choosing just 1 design!

Wouch! I see the problem you might have. Even if I could vote for one of your designs I'd have a hard time of it. I chose three right away. Then another caught my eye. Then two more. Then it was hard as hell. Good luck, and I hope you win!

Tack för tipset! Ljuvliga tyger! Lycka till!
Själv försöker jag sy färdigt en stor hög med kläder till en beställning men det går sådär med barn som vill ha uppmärksamhet och lite nackspärr därtill..
