Finally a peaceful, rainy Saturday morning! My kids are even playing together in their own room! Life's been busy the last weeks so I haven't had the time to sit down and talk to you, I hate blogging in a rush!

Now I promised to show you the result of our cooperation for my little quilt exhibition that is now up and hanging! Sadly I didn't have time to use all the mottos you submitted, but the "textured"-project will not stop here! I have a lot of wholesale orders at the moment, which is great for my little business, but that means I don't have much time to make small art quilts, but I look forward to incorporate your sayings in coming quilt works! If you click on the picture above you will see what says underneath the flaps of the "hidden messages quilt"!

Laurraine's (Canada) favourite saying inspired me to make this little quilt! I used a worn-out embroidered tablecloth for the teapot!

 
Susana gave me this sad and beautiful Portuguese saying "because one swallow has died yet Spring is not over".

 
This is my quilt from the book Quilts, baby! that I decided I was ready to part from, if anyone wants to buy it, that is :) I was happy to find a pretty mirror hanging in the gallery, which shows off the quilt backing quite nicely. The quilts that are not sold will move from the gallery to my Etsy shop in early July!

  Your favourite words became favourite-word-fairies with lovely words stitched on their tummies. They all turned their back on me when I took the photo! And there's my little helper looking very bored...

  And here's big E too, you can see from here face that school's out for Summer can't you? We had a wonderful weekend at my relatives Summer house last weekend!

 

Have a wonderful weekend! I will stay inside to do some hand stitching and watch football with the other eye (the fifa world cup), what will you do?

 

Favourite word?

 

I've got a another little art project going on and was wondering if you would like to share your favourite word with me today? In any language. I used to love the word clarinet as a child. Sadly the sound of the instrument didn't match the romantic name of it in my opinion. I did play it for a few years anyway, but I must say I prefer the sound of my dear old guitar...

And if there are any Swedish speakers out there, I'm still interested in hearing your favourite motto! 

I made the potholder on the picture a long time ago, I'm happy to say that I have become a better quilter since that, it was the only work of mine I could find with only one word :)

Your words in my quilt?

 

In june I will have a quilt exhibition in the small town of Porvoo (Borgå) and have been thinking of a way to involve all of you that will not be able to come and see it. I have come up with an idea! What I would like to do is a flap quilt in larger scale, if you remember these cushions I made ? So how can you help me? I was hoping that you would like to share your favourite optimistic motto or phrase in your own language, like carpe diem or after rain comes sun or...you get the idea! Be creative! I appreciate it if you can come up with a fun twist to your message, it should bring a smile upon the face to the one who lifts the flaps. The only restrictions are that is shouldn't be negative or too long. *edit* Forgot to add: the background of the quilt will be light probably solid white, the flaps made from printed fabrics.

So here is what I would like you to do:

1. Leave a comment with your favourite optimistic phrase in your own language. Please translate it if it's not in English, Swedish or Finnish! Note that it should be shortish, not longer than 8 words!

2. Please sign with your first name (or what you like to be called) and your place of residence. I would like to have all contributors listed next to the quilt at the exhibit!

3. Mention your favourite colours/patterns, I will  choose the fabrics for the flaps that cover your message to represent you! (You can even send me some fabric scraps if you have something special that you would like me to use).

I am very exited about this project and would be so happy if you would like to join me! If I get a lot of contributors I might not have room for all of you in one quilt, but I will do my best to find a place for your words! I will leave comments open until I start working on the quilt.

Interactive project stage 10/10!

I can't believe it is almost a year since I finished the previous step on the interactive project! The big B project I was working on last Summer and Autumn took a lot of my time, but more about that when it's time! The Spring sun got me inspired to shake the dust off this project and finally take it to an end! Again, Mr Random picked a suggestion by the lovely embroiderer Anita, who suggested a little mouse to accompany the cat. Since we had a rope I decided the mouse had to become a tight-rope dancer, an idea backed up by my 7 year old daughter :) So here she is, with tulle skirt and all!

  

Now I only have to quilt and bind this little piece of soft art we've created together and I will draw a winner among all the people who has come with one of the ten first suggestions at any stage. If you are not familiar with this project you can read about it in my previous posts and see the whole process in pictures my flickr stream.

I will give 10 more people the chance to be in the draw, I need some ideas for the quilting, so if you please, I'd love to hear your ideas!

Even if this project has taken a million years, I have loved the process very much and am thinking of following it up in some way, but we'll see about that, first I need to get this thing quilted! Thanks for your help everyone!

 

Interactive project stage 9/10

Hey folks there's only one more step to go on the interactive project! I'm going to miss this when it's over! This time Mr Random picked Anita's suggestion, she said: CAT - A cat with the feet hanging the line of clothing ... So here you are Anita, hope you like the little tiger I created! I added a little fishy too for all off you who suggested I would hang some fish on the line. Now please give me your suggestions for the last thing to add to the picture!

This girl seems to be quite eager to do the washing-up, poor kitty does not look content :)

 

Here comes the rules again!

I will:
1. wait until I have got (at least) ten suggestions for the next motive
2. draw one of them
3. do my best to do as you wish using fabric and thread (and buttons?)
4. go through 10 stages
5. draw a winner among all the people who has come with one of the ten first suggestions at any stage. This person will win the finished piece of art work. (before this I will most certainly get it scanned and printed so that everyone will have the chance to get a piece of the cake)

And a few words about something else! I got a mail from Elina the other day, she wondered if I had seen this bag in Oma piha gardening magazine, so I ran off an bought myself an issue, the picture is huuge, thank you! These bags are available from Elina's web shop patio.fi only at the moment!

Interactive project stage 8/10

Here I am again with the Interactive project! My daughter is off early today so I needed a fun project before I pick her up and decided to go for this! I got 38 suggestions for the next step last time, the random number generator picked number 24...

...which was suggested by Lucy, she said: Stripy socks on the washing line!!!!! I hope you don't think they are too dull Lucy! They are hand-knitted wool socks that the little girl has washed to put away for Summer. Maybe she knitted them herself. When Autumn comes she will wear the warm socks again! 

 

That was the socks, and this is how the whole thing looks right now! We've only got two more stages to go! What do you think is still missing from the picture?

Interactive project stage 7/10

One might think I had given up on this project, but one might also have the wrong assumption :) This is just a project that takes time. For those of you that are new to the Syko blog; I am making a little piece of appliquéd art work in cooperation with my blog readers. Anyone is welcome to participate and make a suggestion on what to add next to the little quilt. I will randomly draw one of all the suggestions and do my best to add it to the piece. This time (stage 7/10) I picked Ulla's suggestion out of the hat, she said: What about a finished mini quilt on a clothesline? Since I am a very fast reader I missed the "mini" and went for a bigger scrap quilt, oops! I end up with a lot of small scraps with fusible webbing when I make my appliqués, obviously I can't throw these away and I thought this was a perfect project to get rid of a few of them!

Here comes the rules again!
